Don C. Weber is the Principal Consultant and Founder at Cutaway Security, LLC, an information security consulting company based in Texas. Don's previous experiences include large-scale incident response efforts for organizations with international assets and interests, the certification and accreditation of classified federal and military systems, assessment and penetration testing of worldwide commercial assets, and, as a Navy contractor, the management of a team of distributed security professionals responsible for the security of mission-critical Navy assets. Don has achieved his master's degree in network security, the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) certification, and many GIAC certifications. Don was a founding member of the GIAC Ethics Council of which he was the GIAC EC Chair in 2009. Don regularly contributes to a wide variety of open source projects involving information security and incident response.

Don C. Weber will discuss his experiences related to the cyber security challenges facing utilities, industrial, and automation industries. He will discuss the challenges he has experienced, outline security assessments of OT environments, and provide insight into common systemic issues. The presentation will include a question-and-answer session to allow attendees to discuss the challenges and resolutions experienced by their own teams.
This presentation will review cybersecurity considerations when planning safe operations. Attendees will be introduced to the ISA 62443 risk management process and high-level risk assessment data gathering that will fuel their information gathering requirements.
The SANS ICS613 course will be designed to help students understand the tactics and techniques necessary to scope and conduct ICS penetration tests and security assessments. This presentation will review an outline of the content and provide insight into the equipment and labs that students will use to perform hands on learning. Don, one of the course authors, will be available to answer questions about the course, the challenges of testing operational environments, and to outline a path towards conducting safe and effective assessments and security research.
